Have you ever wondered why some adults are walking around with teeth missing?

I mean, I know some people don't have dental care, but if you brush your teeth properly, and floss, you can go 20 years without seeing a dentist and still have your teeth. That's no excuse. What is the problem?

Have you ever wondered why some adults are walking around with teeth missing?
Probably because we were not stressed the importance of dental care when we were younger.
Reply:that is BS%26lt;, I broke a tooth on a tortilla chip at a local restaurant, the dentist said it broke below the gum line and yanked the tooth out, it was a good tooth,,, then he says,, 1000 bucks for a bridge to fill in ONE TOOTH gap,, screw that,

so give me the money to fix it.
Reply:Crack; tobacco. i have an uncle who does drugs and he has problems with his gums and is missing teeth.
Reply:I know someone who has a lot of missing teeth and he said it is from not flossing he had to get dentures and he is 40.
Reply:Maybe it just doesnt bother them.
Reply:a great many people have genetically weak teeth and if they lose them, it has nothing to do with oral hygiene.
Reply:Some people have accidents and lose their teeth - such as falling onto their face from their bicycles or being involved in car wrecks etc.

Some of these people may not have medical insurance.

It's not always about not taking care of your teeth.

For example, there was a woman on TV the other day who had lost her teeth to chemotherapy, another one had a genetic problem where there was no bone to hold her teeth in tightly - they were on TV for smile make-overs.

We should never judge.
Reply:Not just that but I have co-workers with GOOD DENTAL INSURANCE and their teeth are horrible!
Reply:Well, my dad is missing a tooth because he couldn't afford to do the procedure that one needed, so he told his dentist just to yank the whole thing out !
Reply:A lot of people don't understand the basics of dental care, things were a lot different 30 years ago and those adults were children then. There are a lot of adults with very real fears of the dentist because of what was common practice then. Also, some people are born without them. Also, though you understand the basics of keeping your teeth by flossing them and using proper hygiene, the general public still doesn't really do that. There are a lot of people that don't floss and end up with periodontal disease and can't afford to replace the tooth with a bridge or implant. Therefore, the cheap thing is to have it pulled. Not ideal in a perfect world, but that is the reality. Also, there is an epidemic of "meth mouth" from those who are on meth....this is affecting a lot of people.
Reply:Okay, sorry if this might sound mean to you. Really, I have nothing against you. I recently checked my health records, and saw that at five years old, the dental record read, "bad dentition." I had toothaches for as long as I remember. When I turned twelve, I had three root canals done. At 17, I had four of my molars pulled out (NOT wisdom teeth), and not long ago, another tooth extracted. About three months ago, I was told that I had twelve cavities. My bottom lower teeth (#29 and #30) had to be redone three times because they hurt really bad. And I have four more cavities to be taken care of. I brush and floss every day (as long as I remember). Dentists just shake their heads when they see my teeth. I haven't mentioned that my jaw hurts almost every day. Oh and by the way, my whole family has this problem. It's a health issue. We'd love to do something about it, but we can't control the disease living inside us. So maybe the people you see also have this problem.
Reply:Some people inherit bad teeth. Regardless of brushing their teeth 3 times a day and following proper dental care they are doomed to have bad teeth.

Also, caffeine can contribute to bad teeth as well as people who grind their teeth at night.

There are a lot of reasons, these are just a couple.
Reply:I was born with three sets of teeth. By the time I was 8 years old, I had oral surgery 3 times, with a total of 27 extractions. They had to slice my gums open to remove the middle set, and they had to manually pull my adult teeth down into place. Then I wore braces for 5 years. Then, my wisdom teeth came in. They were impacted, and had to be surgically removed. By the time I was 20 years old, I finally had a smile that I could be proud of, and you better believe I took VERY good care of them! Then I got married. The first few years were great. Then one day, my husband got all pissed off because he was running late for work. I was still asleep. I woke up with his fist in my face. Literally. As a result, I am now missing the majority of my teeth, and I am divorced. I have no health care, no dental plan, and no money. You think I LIKE being this way??? Wake up child! There are a lot of people out there who are less fortunate than you. I'm ashamed to leave my house because of the way I look! I'm sure my children wish I could be more like their friend's moms, and do more things with them. Life just dealt me a really bad hand when it came to teeth. If I had the opportunity to fix my teeth, I'd jump on it. But I don't. Not to mention, I'm terrified of dentists. Wouldn't you be if you went through the ordeal that I did as a child? The teeth that I do have, I still take very good care of them. I brush after every meal, AND I floss. I hope this gives you some insight.
